Billy, Generator Engineer - “If you are keen on developing yourself Sunbelt will always help you, whether it’s training on a specific product, engineering skills or management development.”
“Sunbelt Rentals are big on personal development and career opportunities. I started 6 years ago and progressed within my first 8 months. Since then I’ve moved into a Workshop Manager role before taking on my current role.”
The working environment within the team is always fantastic.
“Everyone gets along and is always willing to help each other out, whether that’s in the depots, out on site or over the phone support. The teams have great knowledge, skills and a lot of engineering experience and will always offer support when needed. All power depots are OpX accredited which means all health and safety features are maximised and visually all look fantastic, anyone can go to one of our power depots and know their way around. From clearly visible walkways and crossings to communal tools and immaculate work areas.”
I enjoy the site work because we offer various packages based on customer requirements and making them all come together is satisfying.
“My role is an engineering support role for the energy team. I handle a lot of synchronising, telemetry, major repair work and the occasional service. My work varies week by week, I could be doing PDI’s in a depot one day and on-site synchronising multiple sets the next.
I enjoy the freedom and the challenges I encounter along the way. Successfully completing a big job with no issues is always a proud feeling.
In 2022 I was part of Operation London Bridge (the funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II) where we successfully placed generators across a very busy and secure London area. We set up all of the packages and stayed for the duration for engineering support. To support such a historical event was what made it such a great achievement.”
This year I am really focusing on gaining additional qualifications
“I will be looking to complete electrical qualifications, which will be beneficial to me and my current role. After completing this I would like to look at the electrical side of the business, so wherever this takes me on my Sunbelt career journey I’m sure it will be both enjoyable and challenging!”
Rob, Customer Service Technical Advisor - “Sunbelt is the first company I have worked for that has a program for Military Veterans to support, assist and provide a community for building relationships.”
“I was in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces for 3 years and have worked in the plant and tool hire industry for around 22 years. I’m proud to be part of the Sunbelt Rentals Tri-Services Military Veterans community.”
We have just moved to a new all-purpose building and it’s a great place to work
“I work in the National Uptime Centre and it’s my job to run the mobile engineers for London, I monitor how they are getting on during the day with their services and keep in touch to see where we need to make any changes.
I also answer emails and the phones, helping customers with any generator issue. If we can’t fix these over the phone, I will send an engineer to site to get the generator fixed.
At the Uptime Centre we work on a shift-basis, with a day team and night-shift staff. I feel valued as a team member, people will come to me and ask advice and for help. The team are going strong and we will just continue to get stronger!”
I enjoy that every day is never the same.
“I feel proud when I’m able to help a customer from start to finish and can see the result and the way I can build relationships with people quickly.
We have plenty of freedom and I’m able to adapt in many different scenarios. If we have an idea on a new way of doing things our line manager will listen and, if it sounds a good idea, we will trial it and see how it goes.”
The company provides a huge amount of training and support
“Within our team we know we can speak to our line manager about accessing all the courses that we need to develop our skills.
I have completed my ILM level 3 and for my personal career plans I would like the opportunity to step up within the team and eventually manage my own team. Progression is my main goal.”
Mark, Service Centre Manager - “I feel Sunbelt Rentals is a people-focused business that pulls together to make it happen.”
“I enjoy working with my team to provide Energy solutions to customers in a short space of time. if a job needs doing it gets done.”
I applied to Sunbelt Rentals from the Armed Forces recruitment website
“I’m currently in my 6th year with Sunbelt Rentals after leaving the British Army in 2017 following a 22-year career.
I served with the Royal Signals in several different roles latterly as a senior operations manager and as part of a Counter IED bomb disposal team on UK ops and in Helmand Province Afghanistan.
During my service I gained an NVQ level 5 in leadership and management.
When I applied to Sunbelt I didn’t really knowing much about the hire industry, but the advert sounded like it would make really good use of my skills gained in my previous career.”
We have a very positive and friendly work environment
“Every day is different with a variety of activities. I have a running list of jobs with the hire desk and engineering staff. It is a fast-paced, often reactive environment, with short notice to get hire contracts fulfilled.
The team are supportive of each other, including coaching new members with less experience.
I like to nominate team-mates within the depot and other depots for the monthly ‘Hall of Fame’ awards, I’ve also received an award myself.”
Try and learn from everyone you meet within the business, as you never stop learning.
“When I joined I was supported by Regional Operations Manager and other depots and received training from Sunbelt Rentals with a range of courses required for my job role.
I am also empowered with the freedom to be fairly autonomous, but with great support available when needed.
For the future I want to continue to grow my Depot and would like to progress my career by moving into a regional position.”
