About The Role

We are looking for a skilled Technical Manager to join Sunbelt Rentals UK, a FTSE 100 company and a market-leading hire equipment organisation. In this new role you will assist in the smooth and efficient running of our Technical operations, ensuring that customer service standards are maintained to the highest possible level.
 
You will be responsible for delivering company defined engineering standards within a predefined cluster of depots. Supporting the team of Depot Managers and Workshop Managers/Team Leaders, you will drive a continuous improvement program based around safety, people, quality, productivity and equipment availability. You will also be responsible for a team throughout the UK, including the organising and allocation of daily work schedules.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the highest levels of product quality and operational availability, while maintaining optimal stock levels across the hire fleet.
  • Lead and manage a structured repair and maintenance program, with a focus on high-value and high-utilisation (UTE %) assets, ensuring full compliance with Health & Safety regulations and adherence to service schedules.
  • Develop and implement maintenance and reliability improvement processes to enhance the performance and lifecycle of fleet assets.
  • Establish and maintain robust systems for parts stock control, warranty and damage recovery, and repair tracking.
  • Drive continuous quality improvement initiatives and support the implementation of a Centres of Excellence model across technical teams.
  • Design and manage performance monitoring through the development of key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational dashboards.
  • Champion the technical skills development framework, including oversight of apprenticeship and training programs for engineering staff.
  • Create and execute a continuous improvement plan covering engineering processes, regulatory compliance, and technical communications (e.g., bulletins, updates).
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, Quality, and statutory training requirements across engineering operations.

To succeed in the role you will bring the following skill-set and behaviours:

  • Exceptional leadership, team development and people management skills.
  • Experience in Power service/technical coordination roles.
  • Strong data & analytical skills with the ability to gather, analyse and make recommendations/instruct appropriately. 
  • Proven Power operational and technical management experience of a large team across multiple sites.
  • A thorough understanding and experience in delivering Power projects within an operational excellence framework.
  • Financial cost control and budgeting experience.
  • IOSH qualification.
  • Ability to prioritise work load and work under pressure and to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to recognise opportunities for process improvements and assist with implementing them.
  • Ability to source and analyse data and present results/recommendations.
  • Experience of successfully working independently with limited day to day support.
  • Driving licence essential.
  • Local area knowledge desirable.
